Shabbat in Ra'anana: candle lighting, the eruv, shuls and what is open

Ra'anana has one of the richest shul lives of any Israeli city its size, with communities for almost every background. Here is how Shabbat works here.

Candle lighting

This site uses 20 minutes before sunset (Hebcal's standard for Israel). Beit Knesset Ohel Ari's schedule for Parashat Bereshit 5787 (9 October 2026) gives candle lighting at 17:55, which matches Hebcal's time for Ra'anana (Ohel Ari (opens in a new tab); Hebcal (opens in a new tab)). Hebcal gives havdalah at 18:51 that week. The Shabbat page shows this week's times and has a calendar feed you can add to your phone.

The eruv

Ra'anana has an eruv, and the Religious Council publishes the eruv map. The eruvin of Ra'anana, Kfar Saba and Herzliya are connected along the main roads (Religious Council, eruv map (opens in a new tab)). Check the council's page or your shul for this week's status.

Shuls

The municipal shul list names about 70 synagogues by name, address and nusach (Ashkenaz, Sephardi, Yemenite and mixed Israeli), plus a Reform community (Kehillat Ra'anan, Beit Samueli) and a Masorti one (Amitai) (municipality (opens in a new tab)). See the shuls section.

Two English-language shuls have their own websites:

• Beit Knesset Ohel Ari, 98 Ravutsky, about 250 families with members from the US, UK, Canada, South Africa, Australia, France and Belgium (Ohel Ari (opens in a new tab)). Listing.
• Kehillat Shivtei Yisrael, 17 Har Sinai. It posts its weekly Shabbat schedule, with youth and family minyanim and kids' groups, on its home page (Shivtei Yisrael (opens in a new tab)). Listing.

French-speaking shuls: lists I found online name several in Ra'anana, but their entries look unreliable, so I have not added them yet (Francosphere (opens in a new tab); Kountrass (opens in a new tab)). If you daven at one, please tell me.

Mikvaot

There are four women's mikvaot, all by appointment: Herzl 3, Peretz 53 in Kiryat Sharet, Ravutsky St, and Alfasi corner Al-Harizi (municipality (opens in a new tab); Religious Council (opens in a new tab)). They are listed under mikvaot.

What is open
