Ra'anana neighbourhoods compared: north and south, old and new

How Ra'anana's neighbourhoods differ, where the religious and English-speaking communities are, and why the city's WhatsApp groups are the best neighbourhood map.

3 min readChecked 5 October 2026

Ra'anana is compact, but the feel changes a lot from one neighbourhood to the next. There is no official neighbourhood map with boundaries, so I have used the municipality's own grouping and the few write-ups I could check. Try the neighbourhood matcher to sort them by what matters to you.

The big picture

  • Religious north, secular south. NBN says the religious community is concentrated in the north of the city and the secular community in the south (NBN (opens in a new tab)).
  • Where olim live. NBN names the areas around the Ariel, Bilu and Yavne schools as popular with olim (NBN (opens in a new tab)).
  • A city of immigrants. About 22% of residents are immigrants (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Most residents are secular, with a sizeable, mainly Modern Orthodox religious community, many of them from the US, UK, South Africa and France, and many shuls serve a particular immigrant group.

Why I use the WhatsApp groups as the map

The city publishes no neighbourhood map with boundaries. The best official list is its set of per-neighbourhood WhatsApp communities: Kiryat Sharet, Neve Zemer, Lev HaPark and Neot Uzi, Neot Sade, Rasco (Kiryat Ben Zvi), Kiryat Golomb/Shazar/Remez, HaPrachim and Rom 2000, Shikun Asher/Kiryat Ganim/2003, 2004 and 2008, Lester-Tzipman, the south-east (Kazan) and HaMe'ah (municipality, WhatsApp communities (opens in a new tab)). Joining your neighbourhood's group is also the fastest way to hear about local events and road works.

North and west

The centre

  • Kiryat David Remez is a large, established central neighbourhood of villas, private homes and 3-6 storey buildings, with a religious section and an older, affluent population. That description is from 2015, so treat it as background (Ynet (opens in a new tab)).
  • Shikun Asher and Kiryat Ganim sit between Migdal and Yerushalayim streets, close to Hadar and Yavne schools.
  • The centre-south, from Brenner to Moshe Dayan, is older streets just south of Ahuza, near Bilu and Ostrovsky schools and the Great Synagogue.

East

  • Lester and Tzipman (north-east) is home to Beit Knesset Ohel Ari, about 250 families with many English- and French-speaking olim (Ohel Ari (opens in a new tab)).
  • Neighbourhoods 2004 and 2008 are newer planned areas in the east, around Ariel school, one of the three school areas NBN names for olim.
  • The south-east (Kazan) is near Highway 4, the Ra'anana Junction bus terminal and Ra'anana South station (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).

What it costs

A relocation agency's November 2025 figures put rents at roughly NIS 6,500-8,000 a month in the east and NIS 9,500-11,000 in the west. These are a broker's rough zones, not official data (welcome-israel.com (opens in a new tab)). More in the renting and buying guide.
