Schools and gans in Ra'anana: registration, olim, tzaharon and the unique gans

How school and gan registration works in Ra'anana, the 2026-27 dates as a guide while 2027-28 is unpublished, the English pages for olim, and the Batei HaTalmid after-school programme.

Registration in Ra'anana runs through the municipality, mostly online, and the main windows open early in the calendar year. Here is what the city's own pages said on 9 October 2026, with links.

2027-28 (5788): not published yet

On 9 October 2026 the municipality had not yet published registration dates for the 2027-28 school year. Its gan and school pages still showed the 2026-27 round, so use those as a guide to timing and check the pages again from December (gans (opens in a new tab); Kita Alef (opens in a new tab)).

For reference, the 2026-27 (5787) dates were:

  • Gans and Kita Alef: online, 19 January to 8 February 2026. The date you register inside the window does not affect placement. Placement letters for gans went out around June 2026. Late registrations are placed only where there is room (municipality (opens in a new tab)).
  • Grade 7 and grade 10 (state secondary schools): 15 March to 18 April 2026; transfer requests 15 March to 5 May 2026 (municipality, in English (opens in a new tab)).

Which year is my child? (2026-27 bands)

Kita Alef: born in 2020. Gan Chova: born in 2021. Trom Chova: born in 2022. Trom Trom Chova: born in 2023. Children born in 2024 cannot be registered for a municipal gan (municipality (opens in a new tab)). Under the compulsory education law, children aged 3 to 5 must be registered in a recognised institution in the authority where they live.

Before you register, make sure your Ra'anana address is updated with the Population Authority. Both parents' addresses must appear on the sefach of their Teudat Zehut, or the system will not accept the registration (municipality (opens in a new tab)).

Registering as new olim (any time of year)

The city has English pages for olim, with registration information also in French and Spanish (elementary (opens in a new tab); high school (opens in a new tab)). You email copies of:

  • passports, or Teudat Zehut with the sefach listing the children and address;
  • a purchase contract, or a rental contract of at least one year in Ra'anana;
  • the last two years of report cards and behaviour evaluations (translate them if they are not in Hebrew or English), plus any assessments, and say whether your child was in a regular or remedial class;
  • which stream you want: Hiloni (secular), Dati (religious) or Haredi.

A single parent needs a notarised agreement from the other parent to the move. Send the Teudat Oleh (or Toshav Chozer certificate) after you arrive; registration letters follow. Address everything to the registration unit, rishum@raanana.muni.il, tel. 09-7610632 (Sun, Mon and Thu 08:00-12:00; Tue 15:00-16:30; no calls on Wednesdays). The city also has a Director of Olim and Returning Residents in the education division (office 09-7610308) for guidance (municipality (opens in a new tab)).

Secondary school (grades 7-12) for new residents is open all year through the online system (municipality (opens in a new tab)). New residents of the city need a rental contract (required), an updated address on the Teudat Zehut, an arnona bill, and a release form from the previous authority. They also need a confidentiality waiver, a parental consent form if the parents do not live together, and the latest report card. Placement depends on address, grade, stream and the space in the grade, and the city warns that the process takes time.

Two kinds of gan

  • Regular gans: 07:30-14:00, September to June.
  • Yul"a (long-day) gans: 07:10-16:30, Fridays until 12:45, September to 8 August, with a hot lunch.

Gans take up to 35 children (municipality (opens in a new tab)).

The unique gans and the lottery

Sixteen "unique" gans take children from across the city by lottery: Montessori, TALI (enriched Jewish studies), a music gan, and Chabad and Torani state-religious gans. List the gan as your first choice during the registration window; late registrants cannot enter the lottery (municipality (opens in a new tab)). Examples: Ofek Montessori, Oren TALI, Shirat HaYam Chabad.

After school: the Batei HaTalmid tzaharon

Every municipal elementary school has a "Beit HaTalmid" running the city tzaharon for grades 1-3, from the end of lessons until 17:00, five days a week (municipality (opens in a new tab)):

  • hot lunch from a catering company, homework help and daily activities, inside the school grounds with a guard;
  • one free club for children in a full tzaharon, with more clubs at extra cost;
  • grades 1-2 are subsidised by the Ministry of Education's Nitzanim programme, which also runs holiday camps at Sukkot, Hanukkah and Pesach (08:00-16:30).

Listed prices for 2025-26 were NIS 937 for grades 1-2 and NIS 1,037 for grade 3, subject to Ministry pricing. The city publishes an English information sheet (opens in a new tab). See the Beit HaTalmid listings.

English-, French- and Russian-friendly options

  • I found no English-medium municipal school in Ra'anana. The olim pages, Kita Alef letters and registration guidance come in English, French and Spanish (municipality (opens in a new tab)).
  • NBN says areas popular with olim are around the Ariel, Bilu and Yavne schools (NBN (opens in a new tab)). NBN also links three maps of Ra'anana's schools: state (mamlachti), state-religious (mamlachti dati) and Haredi.
  • I found no Russian-language material on the city's education pages.

Kids' ulpan and olim support in school

The municipal pages I checked do not describe an in-school ulpan or Hebrew-support programme for children. The olim education director is the contact for guidance and placement. If you know how the schools run Hebrew support, please tell me and I will add it.

The schools

Elementary (city list): Agam, Ariel, Bilu, Bartov, Dekel, Hadar, HaYovel, Ziv, Yavne, Yachdav, Li-Or, Meged, Merchav, Neve Zemer, Noam, Amichai, Atzmai, Paamonim, Shaked and TALI (municipality (opens in a new tab); English PDF list (opens in a new tab)).

Secondary (city list): Aviv, Ostrovsky, Alon, AMIT Kfar Batya, AMIT Renanim (girls), HaSharon, Yonatan, Mor Metro West, Meitarim and Merchav (municipality (opens in a new tab)).
